You are not expected to catch every rare word — you need the main idea, key details, and attitude of the writer. The adult Polish B1 state exam has five separately scored parts: listening (about 30 minutes, each recording played twice), reading (45 minutes), grammar, writing, and a 15-minute speaking exam. The pass mark is 50% in each part, not an average across papers. An answer key checks the closed reading, listening, and grammar tasks. It does not score the letter you write or the recording you make.

How to practice this skill effectively
- Skim the whole text before answering; many questions test global understanding, not isolated sentences.
- Underline dates, names, and numbers — they often appear directly in multiple-choice options.
- Practice matching tasks: paraphrase is common, so build vocabulary for everyday domains (work, housing, health).
Common mistakes at this level
- Answering from the first paragraph only, without checking whether a later paragraph adds a detail that changes the correct choice.
- Guessing a word's meaning from how it looks instead of checking it against the surrounding sentence.
