Level B1 · Grammar
The adult Polish B1 state exam has five separately scored parts: listening (about 30 minutes, each recording played twice), reading (45 minutes), grammar, writing, and a 15-minute speaking exam. The pass mark is 50% in each part, not an average across papers. An answer key checks the closed reading, listening, and grammar tasks. It does not score the letter you write or the recording you make.

How to practice this skill effectively
- Drill noun–adjective agreement in phrases you actually use in writing and speaking.
- Practice motion verbs and imperfective/perfective pairs in context, not as isolated lists.
- Review conditional clauses (jeśli, gdyby) and purpose clauses (żeby) — they appear frequently in B1 tasks.
Common mistakes at this level
- Defaulting to the nominative case after every preposition instead of learning which case each preposition actually governs.
- Mixing up imperfective and perfective verbs in the past tense, which changes whether an action is finished or ongoing.
