Polish certification exam — key facts

These pages summarize the Państwowy egzamin certyfikatowy z języka polskiego jako obcego: when sessions usually run, what the exam is, and how the five papers fit together. Always confirm dates and registration rules with your examination centre and the official sources linked on the 2026 page.

Official exam

The official Polish certification exam (Certyfikat Znajomości Języka Polskiego) at B1 or higher is required for the EU long-term residence card and for Polish citizenship. PolishReady provides essential information on exam dates, structure, and preparation strategies.
The adult Polish B1 state exam has five separately scored parts: listening (about 30 minutes, each recording played twice), reading (45 minutes), grammar, writing, and a 15-minute speaking exam. The pass mark is 50% in each part, not an average across papers. An answer key checks the closed reading, listening, and grammar tasks. It does not score the letter you write or the recording you make.
